The standard gauge railway is a facility that was created to enhance transport in the country and boost its economic growth. It is the largest transport infrastructure project in the country, having phase 1 extending from Mombasa to Nairobi with a full operation of 14freight and 4 passengers train.
This has led to positive impact of the standard gauge railway to Mombasa economy.

The other positive impact is improved tourism opportunity. As you well know tourism is a major contribution to the growth of Mombasa economy, and since coast region is the most popular destination for tourist, challenges associated with road travelling have been reduced.
However recent study shows that the government has lost more than ksh 126 billion in revenue in one year from Mombasa county hence it has its own negative impact too.
